Alsace wine route

The Alsace wine route with a private driver

Visit the wine villages and enjoy the tastings at your own pace: Jean drives, waits for you and takes you back to Strasbourg.

Why a driver on the wine route

  • Taste without driving: nobody has to count their glasses to get back behind the wheel.
  • No parking to find in villages that are very busy in high season.
  • Your own pace: this is not a group tour, you decide the stops and when to head back.

The wine route in brief

The Alsace wine route winds for about 170 km between Marlenheim, near Strasbourg, and Thann in the south. The first villages are less than an hour from Strasbourg: Marlenheim, Obernai, Barr, Mittelbergheim. Further south, Riquewihr and Eguisheim are listed among the “Most Beautiful Villages of France”.

Frequently asked questions

How many villages can we visit in one day?

Two or three, to leave time for strolling, tastings and lunch. The Strasbourg – Riquewihr – Eguisheim – Strasbourg loop is about 180 km, roughly 3 hours of driving, which leaves about 5 hours on site.

Does the driver wait during tastings and lunch?

Yes, that is how hourly hire works: Jean stays with the car and you leave whenever you are ready.

How many people can come?

Up to 4 passengers. Three adults in the back is a tight fit: for a full day, two or three passengers travel more comfortably.

Should we book the tastings?

Depending on the estate, it is advisable, especially at weekends and in high season. Book directly with the estates.

Is the driver a tour guide?

No, Jean is a driver: he takes you there and lets you discover the villages at your own pace.
